A Department of Transportation contract worker was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle while performing work on I-684.
The incident took place around 3:30 p.m., Monday, May 11, in Putnam County near mile marker 26 in the town of Southeast, while the worker was picking up construction cones, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
The unidentified driver struck the DOT worker was struck in the northbound lane of the highway, Hicks said.
The injured worker was airlifted by LifeNet helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
His condition was considered serious, but non-life-threatening, Hicks said.
The incident is under investigation.
Hicks did not know if the driver was ticketed.
